Second year Sports Journalism students swapped the classroom for a Warrington Wolves training session at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

As a practical filming exercise embedded into the level 5 Sports Broadcast module, students were granted pitchside access to the morning session, which saw the Wolves squad put through its paces ahead of the Super League derby against Widnes Vikings.

The Wire also gave students the opportunity to interview players, including captain Chris Hill and marquee signing Tyrone Roberts, and new manager Steve Price.

BA Sports Journalism programme leader David Randles said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for students to gain first hand filming and interviewing experience, working closely with elite athletes.

“It is a great way for our students to develop the practical skills and know-how required in industry.

“The Wolves players and manager Steve Price were top class with the students. We’re very grateful to the club for giving us such good access.”

The University of Chester is a long-term sponsor of Warrington Wolves who also train at our Warrington Campus.
