Across the Divide: Remembering the Holocaust

University of Chester students were captivated by an “extremely moving” guest talk to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2019.

Across the Divide presented a fascinating conversation with Dr Noemie Lopian, the daughter of a concentration camp survivor, whose father wrote The Long Night: A True Story, and Derek Niemann, the grandson of a Nazi SS officer and author of A Nazi in the Family.

The evening provided a memorable insight into the continuing impact and inherited legacies of the Holocaust across the generations.

Department of Media students Tom Marland (Radio Production and TV Production) and Annabel Smith (Journalism) were on hand to interview Dr Lopian and Mr Niemann (below) ahead of the Chester Student Union hosted event.

Second year student Annabel said: “I found the experience extremely moving. Hearing two very different accounts of the holocaust was both interesting and educational.

“Getting the opportunity to interview the two authors was an absolute pleasure. It has helped me to gain confidence and I’m really grateful for the experience.”
